Wine Description & Statistics
Sanford & Benedict Vineyards
2006 Chardonnay

This limited production Chardonnay was grown in the SantaRita Hill’s oldest Chardonnay vineyard. Located about three miles west of Lafond Winery and now under its third ownersince Michael Benedict and Richard Sanford started plantingvines in the late 1960’s, Chardonnay from this site still shows the powerful expression of fruit that garnered early national attention for our growing area.

Winemaker Bruce McGuire fermented the juice in two new 500liter french oak puncheons and four Burgundy barrels of one or two years of age. “I am very pleased with the results from the small vineyard block I was able to pick out of this vineyard.

The finished wine shows great complexity of flavor as well as richness while remaining elegant andrefined,” Bruce remarked right before the February 2008 release of this wine. One year of bottle aging at the winery has let the wine smooth out and allowed flavors to intergrate and flesh out.

Three to four more years will see continued development, 2012 through 2014 will be the time of maximum enjoyment.
